Aon Hewitt, a leading global human capital and management consulting firm, recently released a report on the 2015 Trends in Global Employee Engagement which highlights how building culture and leadership are the key to engaging employees and running a successful business.

How are engagement and success correlated? According to the report,

“The financial implications of an engaged workforce are significant. Our research reveals consistent, statistically significant relationships between higher levels of employee engagement and financial performance. In previous studies, we found that a 5% increase in employee engagement is linked to a 3% increase in revenue growth in the subsequent year.”

Top 10 Employee Engagement Drivers in the United States

In the United States, employee engagement has been steady at 63% in 2013 and 2014. Here are the top 10 employee engagement drivers in the United States:

  1. Senior Leadership - 10%

  2. Communication - 7%

  3. Valuing People/People Focus - 5%

  4. Customers - 3%

  5. Recognition - 3%

  6. Brand Alignment - 3%

  7. Customer Focus - 2%

  8. Innovation - 2%

  9. Benefits - 2%

  10. Work Processes - 2%

The Aon Hewitt 2015 Trends in Global Employee Engagement report states that creating a culture of engagement “empowers leaders and individuals to develop themselves and others to believe this to be a critical part of sustainable value creation for the business.” Engaged employees “speak positively about the organization to co-workers, potential employees, and customers, have an intense sense of belonging and desire to be part of the organization; and are motivated and exert effort toward success in their jobs and for the company.”

“Innovative companies with strong reputations, performance- oriented cultures that match results with rewards; environments where employees are enabled to perform, grow and be recognized” are the top drivers of engagement.
